MeowTown — a Cat Comic by Tim Schreiber

About MeowTown

MeowTown is a webcomic by Tim Schreiber (opens in new tab) about the cats who run his household and the human who lives there at their pleasure. New strips drop Mondays (usually).

The Cast

Tater Tot, a buff orange tabby cat, squinting one eye while curled up in a dark cat bed

Tater Tot
Psychotic buff tabby

Current head of household. Operates somewhere between affectionate lapcat and unhinged chaos engine, often within the same five-minute period. Both halves are accurate.

Loki, a very large gray tabby cat with white chest, staring at the camera with green eyes

Loki
Enormous gray tabby

The deadpan straight man. Deeply aggrieved by his roommate Tater, periodically attempts to assert dominance, but somehow just ends up being a bap magnet.

Cheddar, an orange tabby cat with light green eyes, lying on a brown paper bag

Cheddar
Beloved orange tabby

RIP 2023. Previous head of household and heater vent cover for 11 years. The strategic, calmly-manipulative one. Gone from the world but not from MeowTown.

History

MeowTown started as hand-drawn comics on the backs of church service programs to keep the kids (and Tim) occupied. It became a weekly strip. It's also kind of a rap song — Da Litter Block (opens in new tab) is available on the major streaming services, featuring Tate R. Tot's and Loki's prison-yard hierarchy and the dominance struggles of two neutered cats who refuse to settle the matter.

The thesis of MeowTown, if it has one, is that cats are not as sweet as they look — they're menacing little creatures we've all agreed to pretend are sweet, and the strips just take that pretense seriously enough to make it visible. Some strips honor that thesis. Some strips break it for memorial work. Some strips are just about a cat saying hello to a turtle.

If you've made it this far, you're probably the intended audience. Welcome.
